Paediatric Dentistry

Holistic dentistry starts at a young age, which is why children are especially important to us. Our most important goal: children should feel comfortable in our practice, since those who had positive experience regarding dentalcare at a young age will retain this mentality with age. Children have a different experience than adults, as they require treatment in a calm environment in which they feel relaxed. Children require a much more entertaining and relaxing approach to the treatment; therefore, we use a lot of love, funny stories, puppets and “magical” toys, such as wands to lighten the atmosphere.

Waiting Room

We have a reading and play corner with books, magazines and toys in case there are some short waiting times.

Treatment Room

Our colourful treatment rooms create a relaxed atmosphere and are free from potentially frightening looking objects. During treatment, children can watch exciting and age appropriate cartoons on video eyewear or listen to a story over headphones.

The first visit

When children visit us the first time, there is the option to get to know the practice better and build trust. Further steps on the treatment involve determining the caries risk, a dental diagnosis and the child’s own feeling, which are determined together with the parents.

Beforehand…

Parents should prepare children by explaining to them the process. Here it is of prime importance to refer positively to things, such as

  • It will tickle a bit
  • Your teeth with get some ice like during summertime

Refer positively to visits to the dentist when children are around, even when family and acquaintances are around, since children hear and remember everything. Avoid negative expressions, such as

  • It doesn’t hurt
  • You won’t be in pain
  • You don’t have to be scared

Children then only hear the words “hurt”, “pain” and “scared”
